Ministry with the Elderly As people age sometimes they are unable to continue attendance at Church. In these circumstances we visit them in homes or where ever they may be. After all, the Church invented home deliveries! A team of parishioners assist the clergy in taking Home Communion to our older parishioners. Pastoral Care Groups Our Pastoral Care Groups have existed in the Parish since July, 1999 and are still evolving. The Pastoral Care Programme was established with two main ideals: • To form groups, loosely based on addresses, so that all the Parish family is included, and • To develop a Pastoral Care Network within groups so all members can assist each other. Each group is autonomous, and meetings are quite varied to suit each group. We started off suggesting people’s homes on a roster basis or a nearby park. Meetings have also been held in restaurants, Kedron Wavell RSL and coffee shops.
A system of telephone numbers spreads itself through the Parish family, with one or two key people being the starting point. This allows for the rapid transmission of appropriate personal news within the parish family, and supports all members of the Parish. A system of email addresses also backs up this contact, and ensures that information is able to be sent, even if members are away. Hospital Support Any parishioner who is hospitalised will be visited by the hospital chaplain, or by Father Craig. It is important for other family members to remember to advise Father Craig when hospitalisation occurs. Our local Prince Charles Hospital and the Holy Spirit Hospital have a permanent Chaplain.
