Little Saints

Little Saints began in order to attempt to reach out to the young families within the parish and the local community. Young children aged 0-5 and their carers (usually mums, but grandmothers, friends, aunties etc) are offered the opportunity to gather for a short time of liturgy followed by morning tea.

The 30 minute liturgy followed a theme which was then explored through a story (bible or other), a song and a hands-on activity. The ministry, it is sure, is as much about being available to the adults who are present as much as to the little ones.

Numbers have ranged up to 8 children during term time. When Holiday Saints is offered during state school holidays, numbers have ranged from 10 to 18 (children aged 0-10).

Working with small children with short attention spans requires an ability to “go with the flow” and be prepared to change the plan at a moment’s notice!

The reality has been that the average age of “Little Saints” has been around 2-2 ½yrs, rather than a slightly older age that was anticipated. With this realisation comes a review of activity and thematic focus. Different creative options are being explored to better cater to the younger children. When they are happiest, then mums are more relaxed also. Further experiments with more intentional ‘music/rhythm/rhyme/movement’ modes have been introduced. Little Saints is only possible with the help of parishioners who offer their assistance either once or twice a month.

Mothers' Union(MUA)

Mothers'Union aims to advance the Christian religion in marriage and family life. We meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month. We begin with a Eucharist at 10.00am, followed by morning tea in the hall at 10.30am. The meeting usually begins by 11.00am. A speaker of interest from the community, MUA, or the Diocese, usually provides input to our meeting. Other activities include, bus trips, an ecumenical month and input into Church projects. Contact the Parish Office for more details.

Fellowship

On the 2nd Wednesday of the month a Fellowship Service is held. After the Eucharist a Morning Tea follows in the Parish Hall next door, during which a Guest Speaker provides interesting and stimulating entertainment. This is followed by a ‘good old chat’ as part of our fellowship aim. All are welcome to come and enjoy this cordial environment.

Small Groups

The Parish continues to develop a range of groups for study, fellowship and prayer. If you would like to be a member of one or more of these groups, please contact the parish office.

Men's Breakfasts & Women's Breakfasts

These breakfasts are each held three times a year and are designed to gather the men and women of the Parish and their friends together, usually on a Saturday morning, to share fellowship and keep the group informed of each other’s wellbeing, interesting happenings and events in their lives and to provide information on forthcoming events in both their private and Christian journeys.

Men's Maintenance Fellowship - MMPBFMM

On the third Tuesday of each month we have a breakfast with prayer and fellowship. Those able to stay join in some minor maintenance projects around the grounds.

This group is the main contender in the longest acronym in the parish competition. What does it all mean? Maybe, you have to come along to find out?Smile

Lenten Study

Groups are set up each year during Lent for a more in-depth discussion of topics of significance.  Nomination sheets are available at the rear of the Church for you to add your name. Different days and times are available to enable participation with our busy lifestyle and family and work commitments.

Cursillo

Cursillo is a Spanish word meaning “short course”.  It is a movement within the Church that works together with groups and organizations in the Parish. Cursillo then is a method of supporting and encouraging our lives as Christians.

It offers an opportunity to grow in faith, a chance to experience the love of God and the joy of Christian fellowship, a way of building a continuing Christian community to help one another on our spiritual journey and embraces the insights and good teachings of all the traditions in the Anglican Church.

In the Parish of All Saints', approx. 40 parishioners have made their Cursillo since its introduction to Brisbane in 1986.  This involves attending a three day weekend during which those attending pray, live and work together, listening to short talks given by different people, both lay and clergy.

Cursillo is a fabulous spiritual experience to be enjoyed by anyone from 18years onwards.  It is a very personal experience even though you are in the company of many other friendly candidates.  We “Cursillistas” would recommend it to young and old.  Please speak to the Parish Contact or any Cursillista if you would like further information on these weekends.

Education for Ministry (EFM)

Education For Ministry is a serious learning program which accepts the basic challenge for all Christian Education which is to enable people to see and to experience the connection between faith and daily life.

Entry is open and it is assumed that those who enrol are motivated to study. No formal qualifications are necessary. The community established by the regular group seminars is at the centre of EFM. EFM seminar groups are led by trained and accredited mentors, and mentor training events are regularly scheduled throughout Australia.

All Saints' Chermside has been a pioneer in EFM and continues to be actively engaged in this Ministry.

Youth Camps

One of the highlights of being part of the youth in the Anglican Church is the number of awesome camps that we are able to go to spread throughout the year. Camps are a great opportunity to make new friends, learn more about God, enjoy great food and fellowship and most of all have a lot of fun. You usually play lots of awesome games, listen to guest speaker’s talk on various issues relevant to the youth of today and get involved in some mad fun. Camps are a great opportunity to be yourself, live for God and have a great time doing it. These camps are run by the Diocese and are advertised in the parish and on the Diocesan website.

The Catechumenate

The Catechumenate is a process for adults who want to explore the Christian faith. You may have questions about faith itself, God, the church, marriage, baptism or even the meaning of life and how God interact in ones life. The process includes:

1. Accepting the person’s questions and life experiences, and encouraging them to explore God’s invitation and calling.

2. Helping a person to form a relationship with God through prayer, worship and Biblical reflection, whilst incorporating the person into the community of faith.

3. Offering choices at each stage of their journey, and helping them celebrate significant moments of the journey within the worship community.

4. Recognizing and acknowledging each person’s giftedness as their contribution to the renewal and strengthening of God’s Kingdom.

Also, acknowledging that God’s Grace is at work in every life and that conversion is God’s work and is a lifelong process. The process may lead to baptism, confirmation, or reaffirmation of baptismal vows.
